It’s been a quiet transfer window for English clubs but Callum Wilson has generated considerable column inches. Spending is down significantly from last January with Premier League clubs’ spending power severely limited by FFP regulations.

Since Erling Haaland came to the Premier League, scored a Premier League record 36 goals and helped Manchester City to the treble, the traditional number nine has undoubtedly been back in fashion. Clubs are scrapping to find their very own Haaland, in an attempt to keep up with Pep Guardiola’s serial winners. Liverpool brought in €85 million striker Darwin Núñez. Manchester United swooped for a fellow Scandinavian frontman who they hope can blossom into something similar to Haaland in Danish 21-year-old Rasmus Højlund. And this summer there looks to be a real striker merry-go-round on the horizon.

This Premier League season has been a goal-fest. With still 33 games of football to be played, the 2023/24 season has already become the season with the most ever goals in a single 38 games campaign. The 1,130 goals has surpassed last term’s 1,084, which had previously set the record around a year ago. It has been pure entertainment, and attacking players have been licking their lips. Perhaps for that reason, it looks like being one of the most exciting races for the coveted Premier League golden boot this term.

Who has been the most outstanding player of the 2023/24 season in the Premier League? As is now the tradition, Transfermarkt will present the division's MVP award to the player who obtains the most votes from our users. Last year, the Premier League winner was Manchester City's Erling Haaland, who was prolific in his debut season in England, as he broke the division's goal record, scoring 36 times on the way to the Sky Blues winning the title. His team-mate Kevin De Bruyne won the award in 2022, with Harry Kane, then of Tottenham, victorious in 2021. De Bruyne is the only player to have won the Premier League player of the season more than once.

While the world watches with amazement as Manchester City and Arsenal continue their high-flying tussle for the Premier League title, one club that seems to be benefiting from the spotlight being placed elsewhere are none other than Newcastle. However, when Eddie Howe’s team make the trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday night to face Erik Ten Hag’s embattled Manchester United side, they may draw the attention of the wider footballing public and impress a number of them with an impressive performance.

The Premier League season is approaching its conclusion, and as a result Transfermarkt have now published its contenders for the division’s Player of the Year awards. Alongside picking the individual that you think deserves to win the English top-flight's MVP award, users can also pick their preferred candidate for the positions of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards.
